Everything You Need to Stock Up on in December
Posted By Pam Tyson Yasinski on December 10th, 2019
Here we are at the end of the year. Beautiful December has greeted us again. Filled with the glow of Christmas, intense excitement of bright-eyed children and often accompanied by icicles and snowflakes. December brings magic, togetherness and smiles that may not exist the rest of the year. As each is unique in its own way, this last month of the year has its own personal crop of items to stock up on to save big. Here is what you need to buy in bulk this month.
The song may have made them famous but they are a great seasonal buy in December. Chestnuts are at the peak of their season in late fall and early winter. It’s also the perfect time to roast them over an open fire! Get yours while they are still fresh, before they disappear!
Football Team Gear
The winners have, for the most part, been determined. For the fans whose team didn’t make it to the top…you can still win with marked down prices on college and NFL merchandise!
Whether you’re making traditional ambrosia or boiling the peelings with cinnamon sticks, cloves, fresh rosemary and cranberries...oranges will make your holiday merry! In December, you can purchase this no waste beauty by the boxful or one at a time. Orange crops are heavily harvested as winter approaches to avoid damage from freezing, giving shoppers a great bang for their buck!

Toys and December go together for many reasons. One reason is simply the abundance! As the song says, toys are in every store! Unless there is that one toy that you absolutely have to have…wait until mid-December to make your purchases. Retailers want to clear out and the closer it gets to Christmas the more they are willing to drop their prices! Shop the week after Christmas to stock up on surprises for next year at rock bottom prices!
Muster up the energy to hit the stores again on December 26 and you’ll reap the benefits! Shop for decorations to use next year! Lights are an especially great item to stockpile. The sooner you start shopping the better the selection, on the other hand, the longer you wait the lower the prices! Some stores will go all the way down to 90% off!
Fruits and Veggies
It doesn’t take warm weather to bring a bounty of delicious produce! Many are at peak season during cooler months, including winter! Here’s a list of both fruits and vegetables that are in season during December, which means better prices for you!
- Brussels sprouts
- Sweet potatoes
- Winter squash
Every holiday has its seasonal favorites…and not so favorites. Either way, it’s the only time of the year that you can get them. A deal isn’t a deal if it winds up in the trash, so be careful to buy only what you will use unless it can be frozen. Think about items that can make a temporary home in the freezer such as cheese, butter, eggnog, cookies and festive coffee creamers. Many items such as candy canes, chocolate, seasonal gifts and baking items will hold up for a long time on their own as well!
Black Friday has come and gone. Or has it? Keep watching and you may see that it lingers around for a while. Merchants are hoping for this to be their big bang holiday money maker and unless they sell out, they will still be willing to give great deals before Christmas! Electronics are always a hot holiday item so if they are on your shopping list, keep your eyes wide open through the month of December!
Coats and Outerwear
Remember a few months ago when everyone was complaining about the Halloween and Christmas items coming out in August? Well, the same concept applies right after Christmas! As fast as you can say swimsuit…coats, boots, thermal items, heavy socks and anything else that keeps you warm will disappear. The quick cleanout will mean great savings for you!
New Year’s Eve celebrations warrant retailers to boost their champagne supply. When they stock up, you can too! The December competition is everywhere, which means savings for you! Check those expiration dates and shop accordingly.
Wishing you a wonderful month of celebrating and saving!
